Florida Gators Football: Latest News The team of Florida Gators football is the University of Florida, located in Gainesville, Florida. The Gators compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Eastern Division of the Southeastern Conference (SEC).

The University of Florida (then known as the “Florida State University”) initially sent an official football team in the year 1906, when the newly consolidated university moved to its new campus Gainesville. Since then, the Gators have played in 37 bowl games, won 3 national championships in the year 1996, 2006 and 2008 respectively and 8 Southeastern Conference championships in the 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 2000, 2006 and 2008.
